Location
Northbrook is centrally located in Raleigh, at the
intersection of North Hills and Northbrook Drives.
The club is nestled in a beautifully wooded environment
bordering Lead Mine Stream and surrounded by shade
trees.
Friendly
Environment
Northbrook has been known for its friendly small-town
atmosphere since it opened in 1962. It is an ideal
place for a family to cool off during a hot Carolina
summer day. Kids can make friends, swim, and play
while, Mom and Dad kick back in a lounge chair and
relax, knowing that their kids are safe and well-entertained.
A family can enjoy swimming, diving, tennis, and
basketball. There's also a ping pong table and a
fussball table. Lifeguards call an "adult swim"
for ten minutes every hour so the kids can take
a rest and adults can cool off themselves. When
you get hungry, grab a snack at our snack bar cabana,
order a pizza delivered, or cook out on the grill.

Facilities
Our club is constantly being updated and improved.
The grounds are well landscaped with plenty of trees,
shrubs, and colorful annuals. In 1999, we completely
renovated our L-shaped, six lane wide Olympic sized
pool. There is a 12-foot deep diving well with a
one-meter springboard for competition. The pool
is well lighted both above ground and underwater,
perfect for night swimming. We also have a separately
fenced "baby pool" which is shaded in
the afternoon and surrounded by lounges, tables
& umbrellas. Our three tennis courts are lighted
and are open to members year round. A new and exciting
playground was added in Summer 2000. There are plenty
of lounge chairs, picnic benches and barbecue grills.
Our air-conditioned clubhouse is equipped with a
kitchen and is available for rental or group activities.
Our bathhouse contains bathrooms, showers and dressing
areas. Last, but not least, we have "The Rock,"
a large natural rock formation, overlooking the
pool. It is a warm and sunny spot where our young
"dolphins" love to laze around and take
a break from their activities.
Fun
Teams
Swimmers, divers, and tennis players up to age 18
are encouraged to participate on any or all of our
three competitive teams. Our coaches emphasize encouragement
and instruction during daily practice. Meetings/matches
are held weekly during early summer and culminate
in a championship meeting/match for each sport.
Our coaches, in addition to being well-qualified
and skilled at their sport, are often former Northbrook
Dolphins themselves. The Northbrook Dolphin spirit
is something we are very proud of. Our youth are
encouraged to cheer each other on, pull together,
do their best and just participate. This positive
atmosphere has not only motivated our teams to perform
exceptionally well (even against much larger clubs),
it has made a tremendous difference in many of our
kids’ self esteem and skill proficiency.
Lessons
Everyone has to begin somewhere. Lessons are offered
for several skill levels for all ages beginning
around the age of four. Our lessons are taught by
our coaches with the assistance of our lifeguard
staff. Swimming and dive instructors, as well as
our lifeguards are Red Cross certified.

Staff
Our club is professionally managed and our staff
is hand chosen to ensure safety and satisfaction
of all our members. Much of our staff grew up at
Northbrook, and they add a personal touch to the
way our club is run. The entire club is governed
by our Board of Directors, a group of nine volunteer
members who oversee the club’s success.

at less than the cost of a weekend at the beach.
The pool is opened from the end of May to the beginning
of September, 7 days a week weather permitting.

Brief
History
We're incorporated as a non profit business with
the name of Northbrook Country Club. The land was
deeded to the club by the home builder Roebuck and
the original membership put up $500 each to build
the club in 1962. Over the years several other names
have been used. We also answer to Northbrook Pool
and Northbrook Swim and Tennis Club..
